When it comes to matters of child custody, you never want to look over the most important details. This is something you have to focus on right away, as it will impact both you and your child. Fortunately, there are times when you don’t have to meet in court in order to resolve child custody conflicts. Instead, there is another option: mediation.
There are many benefits of trying child custody instead of going to court, such as the ability to save both time and money. Other advantages include:
— Both parties have more of a voice. If you want to be heard and if you want to give your spouse the chance to explain his or her side, mediation is often the better option.
— The mediator does not have anything invested in either party. Instead, this person simply wants to help you find a solution.
— It can help set the tone for a better future. You may not be married any longer, but since you have a child with your former spouse, you need to keep a good relationship. Mediation can put you on the right track.
You don’t have to consider child custody mediation, but it never hurts to learn more. If your spouse agrees, this may be just what you need in order to put your troubles in the past and move forward in a better manner for all parties involved.
If the time comes to give child custody mediation a try, make sure you know your role, your rights and what is expected of you along the way.
